PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Member of the Executive Committee at The National Bioinformatics Network Bionetmasr and currently he is a lecturer in Microbiology and Immunology within the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Sadat City.
His academic journey commenced with a Bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences from Ain Shams University, Egypt, in 2006. He furthered his education by earning a Master’s degree in Microbial Biotechnology from Ghent University, Belgium, in 2011.

Subsequently, he achieved a significant milestone in his academic career by obtaining a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from The American University in Cairo, Egypt, in 2016. During this period, he also undertook a long research visit to Prof. David Leak’s Lab at Bath University, England.

For his postdoctoral research, Dr. Elbehery collaborated with Prof. Li Deng at the Institute of Virology, Helmholtz Center Munich, Germany, from 2016 to 2019. His diverse research portfolio spans various domains, encompassing molecular microbial ecology, metagenomics, antibiotic resistome, and viromics (with a focus on bacteriophages) and their intricate interactions with prokaryotes. Furthermore, his investigations extend to elucidating the roles of these elements in ecosystems and biogeochemical cycling.

Dr. Elbehery is notably adept in bioinformatics, demonstrating proficiency in the analysis of metagenomes. His dedication to research excellence has been acknowledged through numerous grants and fellowships, including the esteemed Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship, and the Yousef Jameel Ph.D. Fellowship, and the Development Cooperation Master’s Grant from Ghent University. These accolades underscore his commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and contributing significantly to the field of Microbiology.
