PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Member of the Executive Committee of The National Bioinformatics Network BioNetMasr.

Dr. Ahmed Moustafa is a bioinformatics expert with a strong background in computational genomics. He received his B.Sc. in computer science from Alexandria University and earned his Ph.D. in computational genetics from the University of Iowa. Following his Ph.D., Dr.
Moustafa completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI).

Dr. Moustafa then joined the American University in Cairo (AUC) as a bioinformatics faculty
member in the Department of Biology, where he served as the director of the Biotechnology Graduate Program and later as the chair of the Biology Department. He also maintains his affiliation with JCVI as an adjunct scientist and currently serves as the head of the bioinformatics department at the Egypt Center for Research and Regenerative Medicine (ECRRM). In
recognition of his contributions to the field, Dr. Moustafa has been elected to the national Egyptian Genome Project (EGP) scientific committee and awarded the prestigious fellowship of the African Academy of Sciences. His research encompasses a broad range of topics, from environmental microbial genomics to human genomics and the microbiome, and he employs machine learning and genome analytics to unravel the functional characteristics of our genetic blueprints and the organisms surrounding us.
Dr. Moustafa has published many articles in prominent scientific journals and contributed to developing open-source bioinformatics tools and methodologies, as well as training materials and courses. In addition to his scientific research, he has a passion for teaching and educating young researchers in bioinformatics and genome
